Lee County
Unfortunately, the Lee County commissioners voted to discontinue funding for the county’s Conservation 20/20 program. They will hold a future Conservation 20/20 workshop on current issues, including funding. Still, for now, there will be no new funding to purchase vulnerable properties, as the current small balance is used up quickly.
Collier County
In better news, Collier County voted to maintain full funding from last year for Conservation Collier for the upcoming fiscal year. They will continue to purchase and manage properties for habitat, water, and recreation benefits.
Ô¼ÅÚÊÓƵ is grateful to Commissioners Saunders, LoCastro, and McDaniel for standing firm in their votes to continue funding for Conservation Collier. Their conservation leadership is essential for birds and the places they need.
Ô¼ÅÚÊÓƵ Looks Forward
Ô¼ÅÚÊÓƵ staff will continue to monitor these critical conservation programs while conserving and restoring the 13,000-acre Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, which sits on the border between Lee and Collier counties.
